Eight suspected Tamil Nadu students killed in Thrissur road accident

Eight people, believed to be students from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, were killed in a road accident in central Keralam's Thrissur district, police said on Saturday.

The accident took place at around 11.40 pm on Friday, according to police. The youths were travelling in a car when it collided with a lorry that was parked on the highway at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam, police said. All eight occupants of the car died at the spot.

Locals, fire and rescue personnel and police jointly carried out a rescue operation to pull the victims out of the vehicle.

The bodies were later shifted to the mortuary at Thrissur Medical College, police said.

The car had a Tamil Nadu registration number.

Police said the deceased were suspected to be students from Tamil Nadu.

The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur when the accident occurred.  (with inputs from PTI)
