Egypt stresses realistic diplomacy in Gaza peace efforts, says Ambassador

Egypt has called for a pragmatic and responsible approach to ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace in Gaza, emphasizing that lasting solutions must be driven by serious diplomacy rather than speculation or individual aspirations.
Egypt’s Ambassador to India, Kamel Z. Galal, made the remarks while responding to questions on recent international discussions surrounding proposed peace initiatives.
Addressing media queries on reports linking global peace efforts to personal political ambitions, including speculation around a Nobel Peace Prize, Ambassador Galal said such matters were not for Egypt to judge. “We do not give the Nobel Prize to anybody. Whether we support or do not support such aspirations does not make a difference,” he said, underlining that Egypt’s focus remains firmly on achieving stability and de-escalation on the ground. The ambassador reiterated Egypt’s longstanding role as a key mediator in the region and stressed that peace in Gaza requires collective international engagement and realistic solutions that take into account regional dynamics. “What matters is not the narrative surrounding peace initiatives, but whether they can actually deliver security, humanitarian relief, and long-term stability for the people affected,” he said.
Egypt, he added, continues to engage with regional and international partners to support ceasefire efforts, humanitarian access, and political dialogue, noting that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through symbolic gestures alone.
Ambassador Galal also highlighted Egypt’s broader diplomatic engagement with India, noting that both countries share a commitment to peace, development, and multilateral cooperation. He emphasized that dialogue and mutual understanding remain central to addressing complex regional challenges such as Gaza.
Responding to a separate question on people-to-people ties, the ambassador said Egypt has recently eased visa procedures for Indian travelers, including visa-on-arrival facilities for those holding US or Schengen visas, as well as faster e-visa processing.
Enhanced air connectivity between the two countries, with multiple weekly flights, was also cited as a step toward strengthening bilateral engagement. Egypt’s position, Ambassador Galal concluded, remains consistent: peace efforts must be guided by responsibility, realism, and a genuine commitment to ending conflict rather than advancing individual or political agendas.
