Delhi Court convicts Congress leader Alka Lamba in Jantar Mantar Protest assault case

A Delhi court convicted Congress leader Alka Lamba in a case related to the alleged assault of police personnel during a protest held at Jantar Mantar in 2024.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwani Panwar passed the order of conviction and listed the matter for June 5 for arguments on sentencing.
The case stems from allegations that police officials were assaulted during a protest demonstration in the national capital’s Jantar Mantar area. A detailed copy of the court’s order is still awaited.
Earlier in February this year, a special court at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue had declined to interfere with the framing of charges against Lamba in the same matter. The court observed that the prosecution material was sufficient to proceed to trial and that the issues raised by the accused would need to be examined during evidence.
At the stage of framing charges, the court had noted that it is not required to determine whether the allegations will result in conviction, but only whether a prima facie case exists for a full trial.
The sentencing hearing in the present conviction is scheduled for June 5.
