Sood hails team for zero-defect in BRICS power supply

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood congratulated engineers, technicians, and officials for their hard work, which ensured an “uninterrupted, zero-defect power supply” throughout the BRICS Summit in the city.
Sood said there was a multi-layered power system, including an automatic switchover system that used an alternate source for power in just 1.5 seconds. “The BRICS Summit was a matter of immense global pride for India. Under the guidance of the PM Narendra Modi and leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, we left no stone unturned to ensure a world-class experience at Bharat Mandapam,” he said.
“We deployed more than 100 dedicated personnel on site and backed the venue with an N-2 redundancy, featuring three independent power sources. We even added a fourth emergency link via DTL’s Okhla Grid to safeguard against extreme contingencies,” the power minister said. “Also, to eliminate human error, our automatic switchover system was in place to transfer power to an alternate source in just 1.5 seconds. In addition, through our 24x7 SCADA monitoring, we ensured that the event experienced zero power interruptions,” he added.
BSES power discoms ensured “reliable supply” at Bharat Mandapam and key venues with nearly 140 personnel deployed at key locations, said a discom spokesperson. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) supplied power to Bharat Mandapam, the conference halls, exhibition halls and other venues within the ITPO complex at Pragati Maidan. It also maintained power supply arrangements at several five-star hotels in south Delhi, including Eros, Crowne Plaza and Hyatt Regency, where delegates from BRICS countries were staying,” he said.
Behind the seamless supply was nearly a month of planning, detailed preventive maintenance, multiple power sources, automatic changeover arrangements, real-time SCADA monitoring, he stated.
An important part of the reliability arrangement was the automatic changeover system at the ITPO Grid. If one power source became unavailable, the system was designed to automatically shift the supply to an alternate source in approximately 1.5 seconds, without human intervention, said the BSES spokesperson.
