Central Railway to roll out 14 new Mumbai AC locals on Harbour Line from May 1

Central Railway has announced the upgrade of 14 non-AC suburban services on the Harbour Line to air-conditioned trains starting May 1, 2026, in response to rising demand for more comfortable commuting options in Mumbai.
With this addition, the total number of AC suburban services under Central Railway will rise to 108, including 28 services on the Harbour Line and 80 on the Main Line.
The Harbour Line connects key routes between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and major nodes such as Panvel, Vashi, and Belapur. AC services were first introduced on this corridor earlier this year on January 26, 2026.
According to officials, the upgraded trains will operate in both directions — towards CSMT and towards Panvel, Vashi, and Belapur — ensuring better coverage for daily commuters. Several of these services are scheduled during morning and evening peak hours to ease office-time congestion.
The 14 upgraded trains will run as AC services from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays, the same services will continue with non-AC coaches.
Due to the conversion, timings of some existing suburban trains have been revised. Changes include earlier departures for select Belapur-CSMT services, slight adjustments in Vashi-CSMT schedules, and rescheduling of late-night trains between CSMT and Panvel or Vashi.
Passengers are advised to check the updated timetable before travelling to avoid inconvenience.
