Ailing woman sexually assaulted in Panipat hospital CT scan room dies two days later

A 58-year-old woman suffering from a heart ailment and tuberculosis was allegedly sexually assaulted by a private security guard in a CT scan room at the Panipat civil hospital, and died two days later, police said on Tuesday, August 18.
The accused has been arrested and will be produced before a court in Panipat, police said, adding that the victim's post-mortem report is awaited.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening, according to police. The woman had been brought to the Panipat civil hospital that day by her family and was advised an X-ray and CT scan by doctors. It is alleged that the accused stopped family members outside the room and sexually assaulted the woman during the brief period he was alone with her for the scan.
Following the incident, the woman told her family members about the attack, and they alerted the police. Police said they are investigating why the guard was present in the room during the scan.
The woman was subsequently referred to PGIMS hospital in Rohtak, where she died on Tuesday, August 18.
Panipat City Police Station SHO Devender told reporters on Tuesday, August 18, that an FIR had been lodged against the accused under relevant provisions of the law following the incident.
"She was a heart and TB patient. She was ill and was referred to PGIMS hospital in Rohtak, where she died during treatment," the SHO said.
