Assam Rifles foil escalation along Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong sector of Manipur

Assam Rifles personnel averted a major escalation along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Kamjong sector after heavy firing and explosions were reported near Z Choro and opposite Namlee in the early hours of May 7, officials said.
According to the Assam Rifles, troops responded swiftly to the volatile situation and moved into the affected area under difficult conditions to safeguard civilians and restore stability.
During the operation, multiple rescue teams were deployed immediately. Security personnel secured around 10 houses affected by the violence and evacuated civilians from the area.
Fifteen distressed villagers, including women and children, were rescued and provided humanitarian assistance at the Aloyo Assam Rifles camp.
Officials also said that a Myanmarese woman from Namlee received immediate first aid and medical evacuation support from the troops.
As part of follow-up operations, Assam Rifles conducted rapid area sanitisation exercises to prevent further escalation of violence and maintain peace in the region.
During search operations, security forces apprehended one armed cadre and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with a magazine and ammunition. The apprehended individual and seized weapons were later handed over to the local police authorities for further investigation.
Despite continuing tensions in the area, Assam Rifles intensified domination patrols across other sensitive parts of the Kamjong district to ensure the safety and security of local residents.
Officials said the operation underscored the force’s continued commitment to maintaining peace and protecting civilians along the sensitive Indo-Myanmar border region.
