Assam flood toll rises to 75 as 7 more deaths reported; 3.32 lakh affected

Seven more deaths pushed the toll in the Assam floods to 75 on Tuesday, while 3.32 lakh people remained affected across seven districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

All seven fatalities were reported from the Nazira revenue circle of Sivasagar district, the ASDMA said in its latest bulletin.

The flood situation continued in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, affecting 21 revenue circles and 622 villages.

Charaideo remained the worst-hit district, with 1,42,756 people affected, followed by Sivasagar with 97,074 and Jorhat with 57,371.

The number of people affected by the floods has declined from 4.45 lakh across six districts on Monday.

As many as 81 relief camps were operational, sheltering 32,477 displaced people, while 34 relief distribution centres were also functioning, the bulletin said.

The Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services and civil volunteers continued rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

The Dhansiri (South) river was flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, the ASDMA said.

Floodwaters have submerged 45,341.98 hectares of crop area, while damage to houses, cattle sheds, schools and anganwadi centres was reported from several affected districts.

The flood situation in the state has remained critical in several areas, with authorities continuing relief and rescue operations.
