CM Rekha takes part in cleanliness campaign

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday took part in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva: Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ campaign and launched the Swachh Yamuna Prahari campaign at the Rugby Ground in Delhi University’s North Campus, in the presence of Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and Delhi Government minister Pravesh Sahib Singh.
Teachers, students, officials and volunteers took part in a cleanliness drive on the campus and in the adjoining Kamala Nehru Ridge. The campaign began at 7.30 am with participants, including the chief minister, taking a cleanliness pledge at the roundabout near Gwyer Hall Hostel before proceeding towards Kamala Nehru Ridge via the PG men’s hostel and university guest house.
The CM participated in the cleanliness drive along with members of her team as participants collected waste along the route. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Participation in Cleanliness: Clean India, Developed India”, while its slogan is “One Day, One Hour, Together”. The campaign also covered the Kamala Nehru Ridge area opposite Gate No 1 of the university.
The chief minister also launched the ‘Main Bhi Yamuna Prahari’ app at the Sports Complex of Delhi University as part of the Seva Sankalp Campaign. Registration on the app also began on the occasion. The CM said that cleaning the Yamuna is not only the Government’s responsibility, and that the campaign can become a people’s movement only through the active participation of every citizen of Delhi, particularly the youth. She urged Delhi University students and teachers, social organisations and people across Delhi to join the ‘Yamuna Prahari’ campaign in large numbers.

Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra said more than `3,000 crore has been allocated for cleaning the Yamuna. Various projects are being undertaken to prevent major drains from discharging into the river and to treat sewage. The tender process to set up sewage treatment plants at the outfalls of 22 major drains flowing into the Yamuna has been completed, and construction has begun at 12 locations.
“We are fully committed to working towards making the Yamuna clean, pristine and pollution-free for the people of Delhi by 2029,” he said. A large number of DU teachers, officials, staff, students, DUSU office-bearers, MCD officials, staff, and NSS volunteers participated in the drive. PWD minister Pravesh Sahib Singh participated in a cleanliness drive at Hanuman Mandir, Connaught Place.
