Rohini gets new DDA sports complex

Residents of Rohini and North-West Delhi will not have to wait for memberships or formalities to use the city’s newest sports facility, as the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Sports Complex at Sector-33 opened on a Pay-and-Play basis on the day it was inaugurated. The facility allows citizens to walk in and use its courts and grounds immediately.
Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu inaugurated the complex on Thursday and laid the foundation stone for an electric vehicle charging station at the site. The ceremony was attended by Delhi Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh and North West Delhi MP Yogender Chandolia. Spread over approximately 8.11 hectares with a built-up area of around 10,974 sqm, the complex has been developed to bring quality sporting infrastructure closer to residents of Rohini, Outer Delhi and adjoining areas.
DDA said memberships will open later, giving regular users an additional way to access the complex, but the immediate Pay and Play model means citizens do not have to wait for a membership process to begin using the facilities.
At the inauguration, Sandhu announced the LG Cup for hockey, to be held from October 9 to 18, aimed at encouraging young athletes and promoting greater participation in team sports.
After the inauguration, Sandhu also visited the DDA Aarambh library in Rohini, where he met students who said they were enthusiastic about the facility and happy it was helping shape their future at a nominal cost. Given the high demand for seats, Sandhu announced that the Rohini library would be expanded by utilising an upper floor, adding more than 40 additional seats for students. DDA currently runs five Aarambh libraries at Old Rajinder Nagar, Adhchini Village, Dwarka, Rohini and Vikaspuri, offering affordable reading facilities to students.
The new sports complex combines a wide range of outdoor and indoor facilities. Outdoor amenities include six synthetic lawn tennis courts, two synthetic basketball courts, one synthetic netball court, one synthetic volleyball court, a skating rink, a cricket ground with natural turf, two cricket practice nets with clay pitches, a football-cum-hockey ground with natural turf, and a jogging track.
Indoor facilities include table tennis, a yoga hall, an aerobics hall, a gymnasium, multipurpose halls, a conference hall, a reception and waiting hall, and a first aid room. The complex also has a pro-shop, approximately 1.3 km of internal peripheral road, and parking for 155 ECS.
Future plans include a gym and fitness centre, a rehabilitation centre on the first floor, a swimming pool proposed for Phase-II, and dedicated badminton facilities planned for future development.
