2 Killed, 27 injured as Double-Decker bus crashes into stationary truck in UP's Etawah

Two people were killed and 27 others injured after a private double-decker bus travelling from Varanasi to Delhi rammed into a stationary truck on the Kanpur-Etawah-Agra highway in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district on Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place near the ITI overbridge under the Civil Lines police station limits. According to Circle Officer (City) Abhay Narayan Rai, the truck had been parked on the roadside following an earlier accident when the speeding bus crashed into it.
The impact crushed the front portion of the bus, trapping driver Prem (35) and conductor Deepak (21) inside the mangled cabin. Both died on the spot. Rescue teams used cutting equipment to retrieve the bodies, which have been sent for post-mortem examination.

The bus was carrying around 45 passengers, of whom 27 sustained injuries and were admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Police said the condition of the injured is being monitored.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the bus driver may have fallen asleep while driving, leading to the collision, Civil Lines Station House Officer K.K. Mishra said. Authorities have cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway and restored traffic movement while further investigation is underway.
