Three Bangladeshi nationals found to be residing illegally in southwest Delhi

Three Bangladeshi nationals, including a mother and son, were found residing illegally in southwest Delhi’s Katwaria Sarai and Sarojini Nagar.

According to the police on Tuesday, the duo was found residing illegally in Delhi's southwest area since 2005, have been detained and deported. They were identified as 22 year old Naim Khan and his mother, Nazma Khan.

"The duo had entered India illegally via the West Bengal border. Nazma entered around 20 years ago and Naim in 2020," Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Surendra Choudhary said. He further said that they had been residing in Katwaria Sarai, with Nazma working as a domestic help. During a routine patrol on December 29, police intercepted Naim near Shastri Market following a tip-off. Subsequent interrogation led to Nazma's detention on December 30. The two were handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and deported to Bangladesh.

Naim revealed financial hardships forced his mother to migrate to India two decades ago. He followed her in 2020. Nazma worked as a domestic servant. In a related case, another Bangladeshi national identified as Mohammad Akhtar Sheikh was arrested in Sarojini Nagar. Police said that he was initially apprehended in a drug-related case on November 28. Seikh, who was working as labour at a construction site, disclosed that he was native of West Bengal. He was produced before the court and was later released on bail by the court.

“On dated December 30 when address verification of the above said accused was done it is found that Mohd. Akhtar had left the work and now he has been hiding himself here and there and changing his residence. On secret enquiry it is found that he is not an Indian National and is a Bangladeshi. A thorough search was made and today i.e on December 30 he was traced at near Railway Station, Sarojini Nagar,” the DCP added.

He said he was thoroughly interrogated and was asked for his Valid ID proof and address proof he was unable to show or proved any of his identity proof. “On further interrogation he said that he was born in Madarganj, Kochaghata, Bangladesh and he came to West Bengal in 2004 by illegal means by land surreptitiously. There he married a hindu girl in 2012 and made a permanent residence in West Bangal. He is not in possession of any type of Indian ID proof.
