Apollo Cancer Centre Kolkata performs country's  first Robotic Surgery for rare Kidney Condition

Saturday, 04 January 2025 | PNS | BOKARO

Apollo Cancer Centre (ACC), Kolkata, has successfully performed India’s first robotic surgery for Crossed Fused Ectopic Kidney, a rare congenital condition with fewer than 10 reported cases globally.

The complex Robotic Radical Nephrectomy was conducted on a 66-year-old patient by Dr. Tarun Jindal, Senior Consultant in Uro-Oncology. The hospital’s cutting-edge robotic system allowed precise dissection of abnormal anatomy, minimizing risks and preserving the remaining kidney. The patient recovered swiftly, being discharged just four days after surgery.

Dr. Jindal called the achievement a testament to the potential of robotic surgery, enabling safe treatment for even the most complex conditions.

This milestone reinforces Apollo Cancer Centre’s commitment to advancing medical care with innovative technology.
