Sinha is the new Punjab Police Intelligence chief

Chandigarh: Punjab Government on Monday posted Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Praveen Kumar Sinha as the Punjab Police Intelligence Department chief. He replaced ADGP RK Jaiswal, who has not been given any posting immediately. A government order about Sinha’s posting said that the order of ADGP Jaiswal would be issued later on. Sinha will have additional charge of the Intelligence Department and will continue to hold the charge of ADGP-NRI wing as well. However, no reason has been given for replacing ADGP Jaiswal.

 

HP launches ‘Care on Wheels’ Initiative to Provide Health Services

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Dhani Ram Shandil on Monday flagged off three vehicles under ‘Care on Wheels’ initiative in Mandi, Kangra, and Solan districts. These vehicles will offer over 25 types of diagnostic tests, including TB, blood count, and cholesterol tests, using modern health equipment like hand-held X-rays. The initiative, supported by Apollo Hospitals and HDFC, aims to bring essential healthcare services to remote areas. Doctors and paramedical staff will ensure quality treatment in these mobile units.

 

Punjab Govt declares Public Holiday on Dr Ambedkar's Birth Anniversary

Chandigarh: To mark the birth anniversary of the Dr BR Ambedkar, the Punjab Government has declared a public holiday on April 14, 2025 (Monday) under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act-1881.

 

Mustard farmers compelled to sell their crops at rate Rs 500 less than MSP: Hooda

Chandigarh: Haryana’s former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday alleged that no attention is being paid by the BJP-led Government to the convenience of the farmers arriving with the crop in mandis. Farmers are facing numerous problems like delay in lifting tenders, lack of gunny bags, half-hearted cleaning and water coolers not working. In many districts, the purchase has not even started yet. He further alleged that all the inconveniences are designed to push farmers to sell their crops to private agencies below MSP. He alleged that mustard farmers are forced to sell their crops at a rate of about Rs 500 less than the MSP.

 

Punjab to Observe 7th POSHAN Pakhwada from Apr 8 to 22

Chandigarh: Punjab will observe the 7th POSHAN Pakhwada from April 8 to 22, aimed at improving nutrition, eradicating malnutrition, and promoting healthy lifestyles. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Monday announced that this year’s focus will be on critical First 1,000 Days of Life for children and integrating the POSHAN Tracker for better monitoring. The campaign will also emphasize combating childhood obesity, promoting physical activity, and preventing malnutrition, with active community engagement.

 

Strengthening direct connectivity between Ambala, Panchkula: Minister

Ambala: Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Monday said that to strengthen the rapid direct connectivity between Ambala and Panchkula, a new four or six-lane National Highway will be developed from Baldev Nagar (Ambala) on NH-72 to Khatouli village near Panchkula on NH-344. Similarly, a four-lane road will be constructed on Ambala-Saha road, from Indira Chowk to GT Road Jaggi City Center, in front of Ambala’s Domestic Airport. Vij said that he had earlier written to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, following which he had instructed the concerned officers to begin work on the construction of these roads.

 

Health awareness session held at PGI on World Health Day

Chandigarh: On the occasion of World Health Day 2025, PGIMER Chandigarh on Monday organized a health awareness session at its campus. The initiative, led by the Department of Dietetics, aimed to bridge the gap between medical guidance and underserved patients and attendants residing in the Sarai while undergoing long-term treatments such as chemotherapy, dialysis, and more. PGIMER director Prof Vivek Lal emphasized, “Good health begins with good habits. Right diet, timely routine, and spiritual grounding are essential to shaping the physical and mental well-being of individuals, especially the younger generation.”

 

Rs 4,31,500 fine imposed for illegal mining

Chandigarh: Yamunanagar District Administration and Mining Department officials checked 2,521 vehicles in the district. During checking, one vehicle was seized while seven vehicles challaned, and a total fine of Rs 4,31,500 was imposed for illegal mining. The Government official spokesperson said that 1534 vehicles were checked by the teams of SDM Chhachhrauli. Similarly, during the checking of 293 vehicles by the teams of SDM Jagadhari, 1 vehicle was seized and a fine of Rs 4 lakh 26 thousand was imposed. He told that during the checking of 536 vehicles by the teams of SDM Radaur, 7 vehicles were challaned and a fine of Rs 5500 was imposed. Similarly, 158 vehicles were checked by the team of SDM Vyaspur. He said that all the SDMs, Police Department and Mining Department officials of the district are conducting checks day and night. He further said that 1,534 vehicles were checked by the teams of the SDM Chhachhrauli, official added.

 

Doctors from Panchkula win first prize at MIDNESCON '25 national event

Chandigarh: The team of doctors from the ENT department of the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, secured first place at the MIDNESCON '25 national event organized by the Neurotological and Equilibriometric Society of India, organized at Karnal. Doctors from across the state participated in this event. The doctors from Civil Hospital Panchkula took part in the quiz competition, paper presentation, and poster-making competition during MIDNESCON '25. In the two-day event, the ENT department team from Panchkula won the first prize in the quiz competition.
