Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that special ‘assembly sessions’ based on Ambedkar’s life, ideas and struggles will be conducted across all the city’s government schools during the fortnight-long celebration.

She was speaking after flagging off a walkathon from the Vidhan Sabha to honour the legacy of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, whose birth anniversary falls on April 14.

The Chief Minister said that the Delhi government is committed to working in line with Dr Ambedkar’s principles to ensure equality, access to quality education and healthcare for every citizen. Cabinet Ministers Ashish Sood and Ravindra Indraj Singh were also present during the event.

The chief minister said Babasaheb’s teachings “are not just meant to be remembered, they are meant to be lived”.

“Babasaheb gave us ideals that no one else could give. We pay our deepest respect to him today.

“We want every child in Delhi to not only remember him but to understand and live his vision,” she added.

The chief minister said all Delhi government schools will incorporate lessons from Dr Ambedkar’s life into the curriculum and added students will offer floral tributes to him during school assemblies and listen to stories about his life and contributions.

Calling for people to rise above political boundaries, the Chief Minister urged everyone to adopt Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s vision as a guiding light to build a harmonious and progressive India.

Addressing students and citizens gathered at the event, Delhi CM hailed Baba Saheb Ambedkar as an eternal force in India’s consciousness, saying, “His Jayanti is not just celebrated in India, but globally, as a festival of equality and justice.

He can rightly be called the Architect of Modern India. Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s foresight gave India a Constitution that is unmatched in its inclusiveness and strength.”

CM Gupta added, “Thanks to Baba Saheb, 1.4 billion Indians today live under the same Constitution, enjoying equal rights and duties. He was not just a legal scholar but a visionary leader who turned ideals of equality, liberty, and justice into living principles.”

The event, organised by the Delhi government, saw the participation of hundreds of schoolchildren.

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated on April 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
