Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar inaugurated the "Two- day convention of All India Women Historians" on the theme "Women's discourse in Indian history writing" organised under the joint aegis of All India History Compilation Scheme, Ministry of Art, Culture, Archaeology, Tourism, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Jharkhand, Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi and Department of History, Ranchi University, Ranchi at Aryabhatta Auditorium, Ranchi University, Ranchi on Saturday.
On the occasion, Gangwar said that the contribution of women in the history of India has been unique and inspiring. Savitribai Phule, Rani Lakshmibai and the brave heroines of Jharkhand, like Phool- Jhano, are symbols of the fact that women have always played an important role in giving direction to the society. The Governor also said that it is our responsibility to give these great women their due place in history for their contribution.
Gangwar further said that modern women historians are making significant efforts in this direction and presenting the role of women with a new perspective. This not only enriches history writing but is also helpful in the overall development of the society.
Referring to the dedication of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards women empowerment, the Governor said that schemes like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ have not only provided rights and opportunities to women but have also established a new identity for them in the society and also emphasised that women should not only become a part of history but also play an active role in the creation of it.
The Governor appreciated the seminar organised by Ranchi University, Ranchi on the topic 'Heroines of Jharkhand in the Freedom Struggle' and called it a milestone in highlighting the historical traditions of Jharkhand and India.
Eminent historians, educationists and intellectuals from all over the country participated in the convention. Ranchi University Vice Chancellor Dr. Ajit Kumar Sinha, President of Women Historian Council Prof. (Dr.) Sushmita Pandey, National Organisation Secretary of All India History Compilation Scheme Dr. Balmukund Pandey and Ranchi University History Department Head Dr. Sujata Singh were present on the occasion along with other dignitaries.
