Sampurn Vrindavan by Shruti Gupta Kasana beautifully captures the essence of Krishna's life through stunning art, fashion, and eco-conscious design, Sakshi Priya

In the serene surroundings of the Open Palm Court at the India Habitat Centre, Shruti Gupta Kasana’s solo exhibition, Sampurn Vrindavan, offered a unique and thought-provoking exploration of Lord Krishna’s life. The exhibition focused on three key themes: Krishna’s childhood in Vrindavan, his life in the kingdom of Dwarka and his deep affection for cows. Kasana’s artistic interpretation brought these stories to life in a way that was both captivating and immersive.

The exhibition featured a combination of vibrant acrylic paintings and mixed-media works that reflected the essence of Krishna's life and teachings. The themes of Anterdweep, depicting the underwater city of Dwarka and Krishna’s bond with cows were particularly striking, capturing his tenderness and divine connection with all living beings. The works portrayed Krishna not only as a powerful deity but as a compassionate and loving figure whose legacy continues to inspire.

In addition to the paintings, Kasana’s artistic vision extended into fashion, with a series of statement knitwear pieces incorporated into the exhibition. These garments, made with a mix of hand embroidery, applique patchwork and Bengali Kantha techniques, were designed not just as wearable pieces of art, but as representations of the themes within the exhibition. The blend of traditional craft and modern design created a dynamic interaction between fashion and fine art, adding an interesting layer to the overall experience. Through bold strokes and delicate textures, the artist brought to life the stories of Krishna with remarkable emotional depth. The use of mixed media, including acrylics and textiles, added a layered richness to the works, making each painting not just a visual experience but a tactile one.

The fusion of art and fashion also brought a unique touch, with knitwear pieces featuring hand embroidery and applique work that mirrored the themes of Krishna’s life. Kasana’s work also reflected her commitment to sustainability. She has been experimenting with jute, a biodegradable fabric, using it as a base for her paintings. This eco-friendly approach demonstrates her innovative thinking, as she works to combine art with environmental consciousness. By blending jute with cotton, she has created a unique medium that supports her artistic vision while also promoting sustainability in the art world.

The exhibition offered a deep, meaningful look into the life of Krishna, celebrating not only his mythology but also his love for nature and compassion for all beings. Kasana’s work, through its vibrant colours, intricate details and thought-provoking themes, invited visitors to engage with Krishna’s story in a modern context, while also highlighting the artist’s versatility and innovation.

Sampurn Vrindavan was a powerful artistic journey into the heart of Krishna’s life and teachings. It brought together the worlds of mythology, fashion and sustainability in a way that felt both fresh and deeply rooted in tradition. Kasana’s unique vision and skill left a lasting impression, offering a new lens through which to appreciate the eternal message of love, compassion and devotion that Krishna embodies.
