SBI Donates Wheelchairs and Barricades to PGIMER
Chandigarh: In a gesture of corporate social responsibility, State Bank of India (SBI) has donated 50 wheelchairs and 75 barricades to PGIMER to enhance the accessibility and comfort of patients within the esteemed institute. Himachal Governor and CM felicitate people on Makar Sankranti
Shimla: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu have felicitated the people of the state on Makar Sankranti. In his felicitation message, the Governor said that this joyous festival marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new harvest season. Sukhu while congratulating the people on Makar Sankranti said that this festival has both religious and seasonal significance. It is considered to be one of the most auspicious day of the year. This period is believed to be the ‘Uttaarayan’ or an auspicious time. He hoped the festival would bring happiness and prosperity to the people of the State.
Cold weather conditions persist in Punjab and Haryana
Chandigarh: There was no let-up in cold weather conditions in Punjab and Haryana on Monday with Amritsar recording the lowest minimum temperature of 4.7 degrees Celsius. Among other places in Punjab, Ludhiana recorded a minimum temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius, according to a meteorological department report. Faridkot recorded a low of 5.3 degrees Celsius, Pathankot 5.6 degrees Celsius, Gurdaspur 6.5 degrees Celsius, Bathinda 6.8 degrees Celsius and Patiala 7.6 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, the mercury settled at a low of 8.8 degrees Celsius. Karnal recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius, Hisar and Sirsa 7.8 degrees Celsius, Bhiwani 8.5 degrees Celsius and Rohtak 11.2 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh recorded a low of 8.3 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.
Punjab Govt Invites Applications for Chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission
Chandigarh: The Government of Punjab has invited applications from distinguished individuals with impeccable integrity, high caliber, and administrative experience to fill the vacant position of Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission, Patiala. An official spokesperson of Punjab Government said that as per the eligibility criteria, the applicants must have held office for at least 10 years under the Government of India or the Government of State. Additionally, they should be less than 62 years of age on the date of issue of public notice in this regard. Candidates who have applied earlier need not to apply again. The interested applicants are required to submit their complete bio-data, including an undertaking, to the office of Secretary Personnel, Government of Punjab (PP-3 Branch), Room No. 14, 6th floor, Punjab Civil Secretariat, Sector 1, Chandigarh. The deadline for submission of applications is 5:00 PM on March 15. A Search Committee headed by the Chief Secretary, will shortlist the names of eligible candidates. These names will then be considered by the High-Powered Committee, chaired by the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Himachal CM Congratulates Boxing Gold medalists
Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated Avinash Jamwal resident of Mandi district for winning the gold medal in the National Boxing Championship held at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. He said that Avinash Jamwal has brought laurels to the State and he was an inspiration for budding players. Jamwal was declared the best boxer in this championship.
Hry to celebrate Nat’l Voters’ Day with pledge to staff, literary competitions
Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has decided to administer voters’ pledge and conduct a variety of activities on the occasion of National Voters’ Day, which is celebrated on January 25 every year. The schools and educational institutes of the state have been directed to conduct activities such as debates, discussions and competitions (including quiz, drawing, skit, song, painting, essay etc.) as part of the Voters’ Day celebrations or during the run up to National Voters’ Day on the theme of ‘Nothing like voting. I vote for sure’. Regarding this, Chief Secretary Vivek Joshi has written a letter in this regard to all Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, MDs of Boards/Corporations, Deputy Commissioners and Vice-Chancellors/Registrars of universities in the state, wherein they have been asked to direct the staff under them to take the National Voters’ Day (NVD) pledge on January 25. The letter states that the Election Commission of India has declared its foundation day as National Voters Day.
2 injured as lintel of under-construction 3-storey building collapses in Mohali
Mohali: Two people were injured as the lintel of an under-construction three-storey building collapsed in Sector 118, TDI City, here in Mohali on Monday evening. The injured were rushed to hospital. Locals said the lintel of the first floor collapsed. The construction work on the second floor was on when the incident took place. The incident comes a month after a building collapsed in Sohana, leaving two people dead.
