The Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly passed four bills, paving the way for the establishment of three new private universities and foreign university campuses in the state.
This initiative is set to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading educational hub in the country.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said in the state assembly that reforms in the higher education sector will elevate Uttar Pradesh’s image on both national and international platforms.
“With the establishment of new universities and foreign campuses, students will have the opportunity to access world-class education right in their home state. They will no longer need to go outside the state, as high-quality education will now be affordable and easily accessible here,” he said.
He added that until now, only institutions registered in Uttar Pradesh could establish universities within the state. However, the new amendment bill allows institutions, companies, and trusts registered in other states with a proven track record to open private universities in Uttar Pradesh.
“Foreign universities recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) will also be eligible to establish campuses in the state,” he added.
This bill paves the way for new opportunities for students in Uttar Pradesh.
The government’s initiatives are expected to transform the state into a hub of educational excellence while fostering employment and research opportunities at both local and global levels. The reforms are not limited to the establishment of new universities but also focus on enhancing the overall quality of education, bringing it to international standards.
To make higher education more accessible and advanced, the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019 (Uttar Pradesh Act No. 12 of 2019) has been amended.
As part of this reform, new universities such as Vidya Vishwavidyalaya (Meerut), Vivek Vishwavidyalaya (Bijnor), and Chandigarh Vishwavidyalaya (Unnao) are set to be established.
These institutions will not only provide students with access to quality education but will also drive regional development and create new employment opportunities.
