Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, has accused the Delhi government of contempt of the High Court by failing to present the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) reports to the Speaker of the Assembly.
Gupta stated that during a hearing on a petition filed by BJP MLAs about the presentation of CAG reports in the Assembly, Delhi government lawyers assured the court that the reports had been received by the government and would be sent to the Assembly Speaker within two to three days.
This assurance was also mentioned in the High Court’s December 16 judgment.
Despite this assurance, Gupta pointed out that the government has not yet sent the 14 CAG reports to the Speaker, even after four days have passed. The Assembly Speaker has confirmed that the reports have not been received.
Gupta criticised the government, claiming it has reached the height of dishonesty by misleading even the judiciary. He stated, "A government that can lie to the High Court cannot be trusted to speak the truth to the citizens of Delhi."
Gupta alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government, in power for the past 10 years, has indulged in rampant corruption in every department. To conceal these corrupt practices, the government is evading its responsibilities and refusing to table the 14 CAG reports in the Assembly.
Gupta reiterated that
the opposition will intensify its movement to compel
the government to present these reports in the
Assembly. He emphasised that the citizens of Delhi deserve to know how their tax money has been spent and in what areas.
