The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh unfurled the national flag at Parade Ground on 75th Republic Day on Friday. In the State level ceremony the Governor was offered a ceremonial guard of honour by a spectacular parade. In the programme the governor and the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami felicitated the police personnel for exemplary services.
The parade was followed with a display of tableaux of women empowerment and child development , rural development, tourism, horticulture, information, education, health, forest and industries departments of the state government.
In the parade personnel of Gorkha Regiment of army, CRPF, ITBP, UP police, 40th battalion of PAC, troops of women PAC, Uttarakhand home-guards, PRD, NCC, NSS, mounted police, fire brigade and CPU participated. The marching contingent of CRPF was adjudged best in the parade while the contingent of ITBP and 40th PAC ( women) came at second and third positions respectively.
A spectacular cultural programme was also organised on the occasion in which the artists enthralled the audience with their Chholiya dance, Garhwali dance, Bhangra and Harul dance performances.
The governor felicitated Director General (DG) Abhinav Kumar and ADG crime V Murugeshan with the Police medal of President for exemplary services on the occasion.
Deputy Superintendent (DSP) (Retd) Dhan Singh Tomar, Sub Inspector (Retd) RC Bhatt and Inspector MC Maindola were also conferred with Police medals.
Wife of Governor Gurmit Kaur, wife of CM Geeta Dhami, cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, MLAs and senior officers of administration and Police were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the day the governor unfurled the tricolour at Raj Bhavan. Interacting with the media persons, the governor said that our country has entered into the Amrit Kal of the Republic and we should take a pledge to make our country strong, developed and self-reliant. He said that the year 2023 was replete with achievements for our country. The successful hosting of the G-20 summit showed the leadership capability of the country. India became the first country to land at the South Pole of the Moon in the year 2023.
The governor said that Uttarakhand is also moving forward on the path of development. He said that the youngsters are the power of our State and their energy, commitment and capability will carry the State to the new heights of development.
