Police confirmed the resolution of a high-profile murder case linked to the infamous criminal Satya Paswan, who was shot dead outside a prominent hotel in the Gosai Bagh area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Nagaruntari police station,on 3 December 2024 . Police reports indicate that two of the three suspects involved in the attack have been apprehended.
A formal case was registered at Nagaruntari police station under FIR number 239/24, charging Iqbal Khan, a notorious figure, along with an unidentified accomplice. They face serious charges under sections 103(1)/109/61(2) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 27 of the Arms Act.
Following directives from Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Pandey, a specialised team was formed, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shree Banshidhar Nagar and overseen by Satyendra Narayan Singh, to conduct a comprehensive investigation and apprehend the perpetrators.
During their enquiries, authorities discovered that Iqbal Khan, alongside another criminal identified as Tousif Khan, also known as Tauseef, had conspired to commit the murder. This violent act was allegedly executed to instil fear in local businesses and extort money from them. The assailants reasoned that targeting Satya Paswan, regarded as a significant criminal, in a busy area would create public panic, thus aiding their extortion efforts.
Authorities disclosed that Iqbal Khan obtained contact information of local businessmen from accomplice Sohdabb Khan. Following Paswan's murder, there were plans for another targeted killing in Nagaruntari, with Sohdabb allegedly surveying the area and providing contact details of further prospective victims for extortion, according to the Superintendent of Police.
As the investigation progressed, police arrested Iqbal Khan in the Cherwadih jungle near Nagaruntari, seizing a pistol, four live rounds, and a Pulsar motorcycle believed to have been used during the crime. In contrast, Tousif Khan managed to evade capture, fleeing the scene with two firearms implicated in the murder, noted the Superintendent of Police.
Sohdabb Khan was also taken into custody, having provided the mobile numbers of targeted businessmen involved in the scheme. The detained suspects have been identified as Iqbal Khan, 30, from Bishanpur village in Nagaruntari, and Sohdabb Khan, 25, from Jhalua village in Garhwa district. Iqbal Khan is already a wanted man with connections to numerous cases, while Sohdabb Khan has a previously registered case against him, according to police reports.
