A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at a quilt and mattress warehouse located at Peer Gate, panic created among the locals as the place is a busy market and remains crowded.
As the flames rose, people rushed to control the fire, fearing it would spread further. The fire brigade was immediately informed, and despite the challenges, the fire was extinguished within an hour.
The warehouse, situated on the first floor of a building near the Curfew Wali Mata temple at Peer Gate, belongs to Mohammad Farid, also known as Guddu, who owns a quilt and mattress shop. The warehouse stored cotton, quilts, and mattresses.
According to Mohammad Farid, the fire started due to a short circuit. The electrical line supplying power to the warehouse was directly connected to a pole, and when the fire broke out, the voltage fluctuated, sparking the flames.
Fortunately, the fire was contained in time, but significant damage was caused. Many quilts and mattresses were destroyed, and cotton materials were soaked and ruined. During the fire, a large crowd gathered at the site. Two workers who had been in the warehouse moments before the fire started had just left, avoiding injury. Thankfully, there were no casualties.
The Fatehgarh fire brigade responded to the fire emergency. The area around the warehouse is home to several shops, and the narrow streets posed a serious risk. If the fire had spread, it could have caused extensive damage.
Locals rushed to the rescue and pacified the fire preventing further destruction, due to the timely action, the fire did not spread significantly, and the situation was brought under control.
