Traffic remained affected on the Bhopal-Indore highway on Sunday afternoon after a truck carrying a reputed brand of toothpaste went up in flames in the Khajuri Bazar area on the outskirts of the state capital.
Eyewitnesses said the fire, caused by a short circuit, left the driver's cabin of the stationary vehicle completely gutted. No one was injured in the incident, as the driver and his assistant jumped to safety.
Residents and bystanders at the bazaar tried to douse the flames, which were eventually brought under control by fire engines from the Sant Hirdaram Nagar fire station.The incident caused a minor scare in the area, full of Sunday shoppers, as the fire threatened to grow larger before the arrival of the fire staff.Local police and highway patrol vehicles helped clear the area of the traffic disruption caused by the fire.
