In a bizarre incident, a teacher in Mauganj falsely declared a third-grade student dead to secure leave from school.
The teacher, Hiralal Patel, wrote in the school register that he was attending the student’s funeral. However, the truth came to light when the student’s father, upon learning the matter, reported to the police that his son was very much alive.
The incident unfolded when Hiralal Patel, a teacher at the primary school in Chigir Tola village, recorded in the school register that the student had passed away and that he needed leave to attend the funeral.
He also shared this false information in a staff WhatsApp group.The student’s father, Suraj Kori, was informed of the claim by another teacher, who asked him about his son’s supposed demise.
Surprised and distressed, Kori clarified that his child was alive and well. Upon further inquiry, Kori obtained evidence of the teacher’s false statement and immediately filed a police complaint.
The matter escalated to the district administration, and the information eventually reached the collector. Following the inquiry, Hiralal Patel, who has been serving in the primary school since 1998, was suspended for his misconduct.
The incident has raised concerns about accountability in educational institutions. Authorities are investigating the motives behind Patel’s actions and have assured strict measures to prevent such lapses in the future.
