The AYUSH department of AIIMS Bhopal organized World Meditation Day for the first time on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The event began at 7:00 AM and witnessed participation from doctors, nurses, patients, and others. On this occasion, AIIMS Bhopal ED Pro Ajai Singh stated, "The objective of World Meditation Day is to integrate ancient meditation practices into modern lifestyles. Techniques like Surya Tratak and meditation yield remarkable benefits for mental and physical health."
The program's key highlights included Surya Tratak, meditation sessions, a human chain in the form of "Om," and yogic exercises combined with self-study (Swadhyaya). Participants practiced Surya Tratak during sunrise, absorbing the rays of the sun as it enters its Uttarayan phase. This ancient yogic meditation technique, described in classical texts, is renowned for enhancing mental clarity, improving vision, and fostering spiritual growth. The benefits of Surya Tratak include improved eyesight, increased concentration, reduced stress, and heightened energy levels. During the meditation session, participants practiced pranayama and meditation for mental and physical well-being.
Additionally, participants formed the shape of "Om" to emphasize the significance of meditation and also engaged in yoga, pranayama, and self-study practices. According to a United Nations declaration, World Meditation Day will now be celebrated annually on December 21. This day, marking the sun's transition to the Uttarayan phase when days begin to lengthen, is considered auspicious for fostering positive energy and good health.
Senior Medical Officer of the AYUSH department, Dr. Danish Javed, and yoga instructor Chanchal Suryavanshi shared their insights on the importance of meditation and yoga.
They highlighted that regular meditation practice is a powerful way to control the mind, thoughts, and senses. This program not only marks the beginning of a new tradition but also underscores the vital role of meditation and yoga in promoting mental and physical well-being.
