In a proactive move towards enhancing fire safety measures, the D.N.W division of Bokaro Steel Plant inaugurated fire retardant doors and fire barrier panels in the basement of the Main Step Down Substation (MSDS-1) and the associated cable tunnel. The inauguration ceremony was overseen by Rajan Prasad, Executive Director (Personnel & Administration, and Additional Charge of Works), with the presence of key officials including P. K. Baisakhia, Chief General Manager (Protection), B. P. Sartape, Chief General Manager (Safety & Fire Services), N. Bhatia, Chief General Manager (D.N.W), and representatives from Distribution Network Department, Security Control Department, CED, Fire Services, and other departments.
The distribution of power supply to all departments is facilitated through cables, which are interconnected with the H.T. cable network to ensure efficient distribution. Fire retardant doors come into play in case of any fire outbreak in the cable tunnel, preventing the spread of fire from one compartment to another. Fire barrier panels impede the progression of fire along the cable, minimizing damage to life and property and aiding in the smooth operation of the plant.
Dilip Kumar Gond, General Manager (D.N.W), highlighted ongoing initiatives in fire safety management, stating that additional steps are being taken to further enhance fire safety in the cable tunnel. This includes the utilization of fire retardant doors and fire barrier panels, among other equipment, to bolster fire prevention and containment measures.
