Expressing dissatisfaction over sanitary conditions, Mayor Malti Rai on Wednesday directed officials to step up the cleanliness drive. She was conducting surprise checks at various locations in the city.Rai called for a high standard of cleanliness to be maintained in all parts of the city.
She expressed her displeasure after garbage and dirt were found at several spots during the inspection of Zone 6 and Zone 10 of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC).A visibly upset mayor ordered the deduction of a day's wages from the earnings of Assistant Health Officers in both zones.
The inspection was attended by MiC members RK Singh Baghel and Sushma Bawisa, Zone President Babulal Yadav, Councillors Arvind Verma, Shikha Gohal, and a host of BMC officials.
Rai carried out inspections at 1100 Quarters, 11 No Stop, and Hanuman Temple, etc., in Ward No. 48 under Zone 6, and Shivaji Nagar, 7 No Stop, Rani Kamlapati Railway Station Tiraha in Ward No. 45 under Zone 10.Mayor Malti Rai instructed that roads, central verges, side verges, footpaths, and other public spaces should be cleaned regularly and that the waste generated during cleaning should be promptly collected and disposed of at designated waste disposal sites.
She further directed that high standards of cleanliness be ensured in all areas of the city and encouraged citizens to contribute to maintaining cleanliness.
