A prestigious school St Mariam's has in a rare and big gesture adopted an ace archer Dipti Kumari.
Chairman of the St Mariam's school Avinash Dev said, "From today this archer Dipti Kumari is a member of the school family. She will teach our boys and girls the nuances of archery."
Avinash Dev said "Poverty and denial made this highly versatile archer Dipti Kumari abandon her career in archery as she and her parents had no money to support her and keep her going."
"Her little over 4 lakh worth bow broke down when she had a plan to leave for the USA. She never got money for either its repair or for its replacement" added the chairman.
Many expressed sympathy for her but none was around to help her with money reminder Avinash Dev known by his full name.
Dipti Kumari said, "There came such a time in her life that she began to sell cups of tea. She had never thought of doing this. She looked grateful to Avinash Dev for giving her a strong foothold to rise in life."
The Chairman of the St Mariam's school further said "We have given her a big hand as her story of struggle resembles his own struggle of life. She is a perfect case of woman empowerment. Our school is committed to further embolden the concept of female empowerment."
"An arrow comes for rupees 18, 000 each. Can a girl of a common ordinary family afford this expenditure on games?" quipped Avinash Dev.
Avinash Dev said Dipti's mother had borrowed money from the Sakhi Mandal. Her dreams to see her daughter flying high in archery stands dashed, added the chairman.
If this school is the first in Palamu to have an archer, it is also first in having its own ambulance.
"When I planned to have hostels for boys and girls, many said I was making the wrong decision. But I went ahead. I proved everyone wrong." added the chairman.
