Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the UP assembly on Wednesday, leading to the expulsion of Samajwadi Party MLA Atul Pradhan for the entire winter session.
The SP members created a ruckus over the reply by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on the state of health services in the state and the death of infants in a fire at Jhansi Medical College Hospital during Zero Hour.
The SP members trouped into the well of the House, demanding an apology from the deputy CM.
Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, who tried to pacify the agitating members, was annoyed with the actions of SP member Atul Pradhan. Perturbed by the unruly behaviour of the SP MLA, Mahana even threatened to get him disqualified from the membership of the assembly for speaking in unparliamentary language about the health minister.
The speaker was so angered that he asked the marshal of the assembly to throw out SP MLA Atul Pradhan. Later, the House had to be adjourned after the uproar by the opposition, and Atul Pradhan was expelled for the entire session.
The SP members were agitated over the reply of the health minister. The minister said that emergency services are not available in primary health centres (PHCs), yet they take the patients to PHCs to ensure the casualty and then mislead the people about the deterioration of public health services in Uttar Pradesh.
The minister’s reply agitated the SP MLAs, and Atul Pradhan used intemperate language against the minister. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Suresh Khanna, took strong objection to the language used by Pradhan and demanded the intervention of the Chair. Speaker Mahana ordered the expulsion of the SP MLA and later adjourned the House.
The assembly later approved the second supplementary budget for the current fiscal year 2024-25 without any discussion, and the House was adjourned for the day. A discussion on Maha Kumbh, which was slated for Wednesday, will now be held on Thursday.
