The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday announced 16 candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. SP leader and Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav has been fielded from Mainpuri constituency and Ravidas Mehrotra from Lucknow.
Other candidates include Akshay Yadav (Firozabad), Dharmendra Yadav (Budaun), Shafiqur Rahman Barq (Sambhal), Devesh Shakya (Etah), Utkarsh Verma (Kheri), Anand Bhadoria (Dhaurahra), Annu Tandon (Unnao), Dr Naval Kishore Shakya (Farrukhabad), Raja Ram Pal (Akbarpur), Shivshankar Singh Patel (Banda), Awadhesh Prasad (Faizabad), Kajal Nishad (Gorakhpur), Lalji Verma (Ambedkar Nagar), and Ram Prasad Chaudhary (Basti).
SP president Akhilesh Yadav is likely to contest from Kannauj. Akhilesh had debuted in politics from Kannauj after contesting the first Lok Sabha election from this seat in 1999. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Azamgarh. However, he resigned from this seat in March, 2022 following his election to UP assembly from Karhal assembly seat in Mainpuri district.
The SP chief’s wife Dimple Yadav is the current MP from Mainpuri, and Karhal is one of the assembly segments of Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat.
