Inspired by Ayodhya’s historic ‘Deepotsav’ , the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will hold ‘DilliDeepotsav’ at Vasudev Ghat in the evening on November 13, in the run up to ‘Dev-Deepawali’, Guru Purab and Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s 150th Jayanti. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena will also perform Yamuna Arti on this occasion.
As per plan, over 3,50,000 diyas will be lit at the ghat by people from various walks of life attending the event, which would also include students and artists. A captivating drone and laser show is also planned at the event. A grand Ram Darbar, will be housed in the ‘Baradari’ at Vasudev Ghat.
Inaugurated in March 2024, Vasudev Ghat stands as a testament to Delhi LG’s commitment to rejuvenation of the Yamuna and its floodplain by bringing the people of the city closer to the river and making them stakeholders in its cleaning. The Vasudev Ghat showcases India’s rich cultural heritage with sculptures and artefacts sourced from various states across the country.
A grand YamunaAarti, which is now happening twice a week regularly since early this year at the Ghat, accompanied by a mesmerizing drone show, will elevate the spiritual ambiance.
Spread over 16 hectares, Vasudev Ghat is part of DDA's initiative to rejuvenate 66 hectares of ghats along the Yamuna riverbank from Wazirabad to the Old Railway Bridge. Vasudev Ghat is a unique project among the ongoing restoration and rejuvenation projects of the Yamuna floodplains. It not only features green lawns, a 3-km cycling track, and a walking area, but also showcases a historic look with captivating artwork.
The landscaping at the ghat has been done in the Charbagh style, incorporating elements like baradaris and chhatris inspired by the adjacent Qudsia Bagh garden. One of the major attractions at Vasudev Ghat is a 250-kg metal bell sourced from skilled craftsmen in Jalesar, Rajasthan. Additionally, there are magnificent elephant structures made of pink Kota stone. Similar sculptures can also be seen at the revamped central verge of Ring Road facing the ghat, giving the area a fresh and distinctive appearance.
To enhance the natural beauty of Vasudev Ghat, approximately 1,700 riverine native and naturalized species have been planted along the floodplain. <
The ghat features stairs leading down towards the river, providing visitors with a picturesque view of the Yamuna. In the future, the DDA plans to create a changing area at the ghat for people to use after bathing. This project is part of the 10 restoration projects for the Yamuna floodplain on both sides of the river. Other places developed by the DDA along the river include Baansera and Asita.
The Ghat features landscaped gardens, kuccha walking paths and cultural spaces, making it a perfect destination as an open public green that are being developed all across the city by DDA under the LG’s guidance..
