The political slugfest between the AAP and the BJP intensified in Delhi on Wednesday as the Chief Minister Atishi alleged that the BJP was offering Rs 1,100 to women from slum areas in the New Delhi constituency, and that the cash distribution took place at the residence of former BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma.
However, Varma has rejected the charge and said the Rashtriya Swabhiman Sanstha, formed by his father and former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma 25 years ago, was behind the scheme to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,100 to poor women. In a statement, Verma said the 'Rashtriya Swabhiman' was behind the scheme to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,100 to women from poor sections of society. Taking a dig at AAP, Verma also said that at least he was "not distributing liquor like Arvind Kejriwal".
Earlier, addressing a press conference, Atishi alleged that “Rs 1,100 each was given to women from slum clusters at former BJP MP Parvesh Verma's residence at Windsor Place, and their voter ID details were noted down.”
“I urge the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Delhi Police to raid Parvesh Verma’s residence. There is credible information that crores of rupees in cash are still lying there. If these agencies act now, the truth about BJP’s unethical practices will be exposed to the entire country," she said, adding that the AAP will make formal complaints to the police and the election commission and demanded Verma's arrest. The controversy escalated when AAP leaders, including MP Saurabh Bharadwaj, slammed Verma and the BJP for allegedly using the tactic of vote-buying.
Verma, a former West Delhi BJP MP, had earlier claimed that he was asked by senior party leaders to start preparations for contesting from the New Delhi Assembly segment.
