Police registers case against Bharadwaj, three MLAs over ruckus at Secretariat

Delhi Police on Sunday registered a case against AAP minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and three party MLAs for the ruckus at the Secretariat and Lt Governor's House over the issue of reinstatement of bus marshals. Meanwhile, Bharadwaj also filed a formal police complaint against Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta for allegedly kicking a female bus marshal.

According to the FIR registered based on a complaint by Gupta, the AAP MLAs have been charged under in Civil Lines police station under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In addition to Bharadwaj's complaint, Deputy Speaker in Delhi Assembly Rakhi Birla also lodged a complaint against Gupta for alleged harassment due to her Dalit caste. Furthermore, another civil defense volunteer has filed a separate complaint alleging that the BJP MLA kicked her as the volunteers sought clarification on a cabinet note outside the LG House.

Commenting on the complaint, Bharadwaj said, “The very fact that Vijender Gupta has used police administration to file fake FIRs against AAP ministers and MLAs and innocent bus marshals shows that Vijender Gupta was not ready and not wanting to meet the LG and it was only because of the pressure of Civil Defence volunteers and MLAs that he had to approach LG.”

He also expressed concern for the well-being of the bus marshals involved. “Two female bus marshals including Pankaj who tearfully reported that BJP MLA Vijender Gupta kicked her. The other girl was named Zubaida; she said that she was hit by a police officer, and was crying. The officer assured us that they would send her for a medical examination (MLC).”

He claimed that they haven’t been able to get in touch with either of the women since then. “We fear that something unfortunate might happen with them so we have again filed a formal complaint,” he alleged.

Delhi Police has not released any statement on the matter so far. On Saturday, Bharadwaj and other AAP leaders were seen laying at the feet of Gupta, requesting him to accompany them to LG VK Saxena's House to get his approval on the cabinet note on bus marshals.

Gupta has alleged that AAP MLAs Saurabh Bhardwaj, Kuldeep Kumar, Jarnail Singh and Rohit Mahroliya indulged in indecent behaviour that led to a scuffle.

He said this happened after the BJP MLAs submitted a memorandum on the marshals' issue to Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

When they were leaving the meeting, AAP MLAs present at the Secretariat complex misbehaved and engaged in a scuffle, Gupta said.
