LG congratulates golf prodigy over winning DDA LG’s Golf Tournament

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena congratulated 16-year old golf prodigy Pritish Singh Karayat over winning the 24th Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Lt Governor's Golf Tournament organised at Qutab Golf Course.Eminent sports person such as former Indian Cricket team captain Kapil Dev also participated in the tournament, which saw participation of over 1200 golfers, making it the largest golf tournament in the country in terms of participants. It was organised over two weekends—September 27 to 29 and October 4 to 6.

Karayat stunned everyone by winning the tournament while Saxena congratulated him on his grand success and exuded confidence in him to win many international events in the coming future.

Karayat began his golf journey in 2016 under the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and has since achieved remarkable success. As a top-ranked junior golfer, he has consistently ranked among India's top 10 juniors. His ultimate goal is to become a professional golfer, representing India globally and making a name for himself in the world of golf.

In the ladies category, Sonavi Kacker was the winner while Raju Saxena was winner in the caddies tournament. The prizes were given by Sangita Saxena, wife of Delhi LG.

Saxena congratulated all the winners and was also impressed upon the overwhelming response the tournament had received. He lauded DDA's efforts in promoting sports infrastructure in the national capital and urged people to make sports a part of their life.

“Qutab Golf Course is a well maintained golf course, is the first Public Golf Course in the country and is very popular because of its affordability and accessibility. The low fee structure and Pay and Play facility available at the course has brought the game to the masses,” a statement by the DDA said.

It also added that the DDA has created many facilities in the national capital and has 16 sports complexes, three mini sports complexes, two public golf courses, 17 swimming pools and 40 multigyms.

“Besides, Centres of Excellence are being developed in many sports like wrestling, weight lifting, boxing, judo, kabaddi, tennis, shooting, football, hockey in various sectors of Dwarka and Centre of Excellence in aquatics in Sector 33 Rohini. A public golf course Is also being developed at Sector 24 Dwarka, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year,” it stated.
