A two day, AIIMS Bhopal Endovascular and Interventional Radiology Conference (ABIR-2024) was successfully conducted on February 17 and 18, 2024, by the Department of Radiodiagnosis & Imaging, in collaboration with Indian Society of Vascular & Interventional Radiology (ISVIR) Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh State Chapter and Madhya Pradesh State Branch of Indian Radiological & Imaging Association.
A hands-on training workshop on Vascular and Nonvascular interventions was conducted on 17th February, by 25 Interventional Radiology experts of National and International repute, from all across India. 120 Radiology resident delegates were trained in minimally invasive and advanced Interventional Radiology treatments for stroke, cancer management, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, laser and glue treatment of varicose veins etc.
Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, CEO & Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal inaugurated the workshop and emphasized the need of teamwork between Interventional Radiologists and other specialists for maximum benefit of treatment for patients at AIIMS Bhopal and for the State.
A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme was conducted on 18th February by expert interventional radiologists for participants that included clinical specialists like Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, General surgeons, gastro surgeons, cardiac surgeons, and oncologists .Best treatment options were discussed with emphasis on the role and importance of interventional radiology in treating complex diseases like peripheral arterial disease, deep venous thrombosis , Pulmonary Embolism, gastrointestinal bleed, Intracerebral hemorrhage, acute stroke management and advanced cancer treatment.
Dr. Sunil Malik, President, AIIMS Bhopal inaugurated the CME on 18th Feb and appreciated the efforts by the Department of Radiodiagnosis in successfully conducting the conference and training resident doctors on Interventional Radiological procedures. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Malik, Head Radiodiagnosis and President State Chapter of IRIA and the Organizing chairperson of ABIR-2024, emphasized on the vital role played by the interventional radiologists and the importance of the outreach initiative taken up by the department for providing Interventional Radiological services upto the primary health care centers, by training young Radiologists by conducting regular hands on workshops on different interventional modules. Dr. Aman Kumar, Organizing secretary of ABIR-2024, gave an overview of the ABIR-2024 conference and the proposed training modules for future at AIIMS Bhopal.
The 2 day event of ABIR-2024, with an enthusiastic participation of 120 delegates, 25 Interventional Radiology expert trainers from all over the country and academic discussions with more than 30 Senior specialist doctors from Bhopal, was highly appreciated, with a strong demand from delegates for conducting more such academic events in the future.
