The director of Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Prof. Sukumar Mishra, has been elevated to the prestigious rank of Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), effective January 1, 2025.
This honor recognizes his significant contributions to the fields of microgrid control and smart charging technologies. The elevation to IEEE Fellow is a distinguished accolade awarded to a select group of individuals who have
made outstanding contributions to the electrical and electronic engineering profession. Each year, the IEEE Fellow Committee conducts a rigorous evaluation process, and less than 0.1% of voting members are selected.for this honor. Prof. Mishra's elevation is a testament to his exceptional work and dedication to advancing technology in these critical areas.
In the coming months, Prof. Mishra will receive the IEEE Fellow certificate and a 10K Gold Fellow pin, both of which serve as visible recognition of his elevation to the highest grade of IEEE membership.
In addition to this prestigious recognition, Prof. Mishra was recently honored with the Hingorani Award 2024 by the Bangalore Chapter of the IEEE Power and Energy Society. This award acknowledges his exceptional contributions to the advancement of Solar Photovoltaic Systems. The award ceremony, held in Bangalore, celebrated his pioneering research in developing reliable microgrids for residential societies.
Prof. Mishra's innovative work, particularly in advanced control methods for designing grid-forming inverters, has been instrumental in addressing the dynamic challenges faced by modern power grids. His research facilitates seamless synchronization between distributed energy sources and the grid, ensuring reliability and efficiency. Notably, his findings were published in the 2021 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE).
Given the growing global energy and environmental crises, Prof. Mishra's contributions are of paramount importance. His research supports the development of distributed generation systems that integrate renewable energy sources, including photovoltaic arrays, fuel cells, wind turbines, and hydroelectric systems, into existing power infrastructures.
