The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Bhopal Centre successfully celebrated World Architecture Day at the iconic Gauhar Mahal, with enthusiastic participation from architects, design professionals, and students from across the city.
This year's theme, "Intricate Weaving of Art, Architecture & Technology," inspired participants to reflect on the importance of creativity, innovation, and their contribution to the future of architecture. The grand event showcased architectural excellence alongside community engagement and creative collaboration.
The focus was on addressing the challenges of modern cities, integrating technology, and promoting sustainable architectural practices. A musical performance by the Rang Band group added to the vibrant atmosphere, while the highlights of the event included a Digital Display by the knowledge partner and On-the-Spot Competitions featuring live painting and photography contests.
Ar Akshay Selukar, Chairman of the Bhopal Chapter, expressed, “This is a festival for architects, celebrated in honor of World Architecture Day. The purpose of the event, held on Sunday, was to engage the general public with architects. Many students from MANIT and SPA interacted with professional architects, which was a key aspect of this gathering. We want architects to collaborate with society, sharing knowledge about the changes happening in architecture.” He also announced the upcoming National Convention Centre (NetCon) event in 2025, a Pan-India level event that will feature international speakers and will focus on advancing architectural discourse on a global scale.
The event concluded with a networking session where professionals and architecture enthusiasts exchanged ideas and explored opportunities for collaboration.
Ar Ruchir Tiwari gave an insightful presentation on the architectural design of a Yoga Retreat cum Resort in Udaipur, emphasizing the use of vernacular construction technology. He explained that the project's unique feature is its commitment to environmental responsibility, using natural materials like stone and lime plaster.
He also discussed how architects can integrate technology into their work and maintain harmony with local architectural traditions.
