Govt should immediately resolve farmers’ demands & end hunger strike: Hooda

Thursday, 19 December 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana Congress leaders, legislators and workers under the leadership of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday carried out a march to Raj Bhavan from its party headquarters, Sector 9 in Chandigarh on farmers' demands. The Congress leaders raised the slogans by demanding fulfillment of farmers’ demand of legal guarantee of MSP on crops and other issues.

Talking to reporters, Hooda said that Congress wants to draw the attention of the government towards farmers, along with all other issues. “BJP should find a solution soon by talking to the agitating farmers, because the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 22 days, has become very worrying. His life is precious for everyone. Hence the government should immediately resolve his demands and end the hunger strike,” he added.

Hooda said Congress is raising the demands of farmers from the streets to the Parliament. “The demands of the farmers are completely justified and many years old. BJP itself had ended the farmers' movement by promising MSP. Despite the assurance given to the farmers, there is no trace of the MSP committee till date,” he added.

“Now the farmers are reminding the government of the same promise. BJP had announced to double the income of farmers by promising MSP, but they forgot their promise, and instead of doubling the income of farmers, they increased their cost manifold,” he pointed out.

Hooda said that till now the entire agitation of the farmers has been peaceful. “Following the government's instructions, they have also agreed to go to Delhi without tractor trolleys. Still, stopping the farmers from going to Delhi is a completely undemocratic step. In a democracy, all citizens have the right to go anywhere or express their views in a peaceful manner,” he said.
