Celebrations marking Govardhan Puja took place at several places in the Bhopal division on Friday, with festivities being reported from Raisen and Sehore districts on the outskirts of the state capital.
In Raisen, the Yadav community marked the occasion with members adorning their livestock before arriving at the Hiraman Baba Temple to the beat of drums and devotional folk songs.
As part of the annual ritual, they offered milk to the deity, which was later distributed as prasad.
Scores of young children added to the festive atmosphere with fireworks. The procession included bulls to the temple, where, as per tradition, a mock fight was also organised.
A large number of people gathered at the venue to watch the spectacle; however, since the bulls belonged to the same household, they did not fight among themselves.
Subsequently, a match took place at the city’s Dussehra ground between Sunil Yadav's bull and Kalu Yadav's bull.In Sehore, the community performed Govardhan and Annakut Puja. Villagers decorated their homes with earthen lamps and colourful electrical lights.During the Annakut, villagers made an offering to Lord Govardhan by adorning the revered deity with flowers amid the chanting of mantras.Festivities also took place in the hamlets that dot the edges of the state capital, and livestock adorned with festive adornments could be seen at several places.
