The Indian Puppet Festival "Putul Yatra" is to be organized in Dhanbad by the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi from 18th to 21st March to commomorate the of World Puppet Day.
The world puppet day falls on March21.
Coordinator of this program, Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary, who is also the coordinator of Chhau Centre, Chandankiyari, said that this national festival is being organized in collaboration with Coal India Limited and would take place at the Community Hall in Koyla Nagar. BCCL CMD Samiran Dutta and Dr. Sandhya Purecha, President of Sangeet Natak Akademi on March 18 at 6 pm.
He said that the main objective of this program to revive the extincting puppet tradition in the country has to be revived. such a program is being organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India in Dhanbad for the first time in Jharkhand. About 150 puppeteers from 28 states across the country are coming to participate in this program.
He said that the main objective of this four-day long program is to make people aware of the history of puppetry and its Indian tradition.
The puppeteers who would perform in this program would showcase thread puppetry, rod puppetry, shadow puppetry and glove puppetry depicting Sita Haran, Rani Lakshmi Bai, The Little Blue Planet, Gulliver's Travels, Aladdin, Narayan Ki Mahima, Veer Bajrangbali, Ramayana, Sunderkand, Timing of the Wild, Vishnu Prasad will present on topics like Radha, Duryodhana Vadh, Ayesha's Journey and Kamba Ramayana.
Expert artists like , Puran Bhat from Delhi, Ramchandra Pulavar from Kerala, Dadi Pudumji from Delhi and Sudeep Gupta from West Bengal will give tips the children too. Puppet making stall would also be set up where people can learn puppet making, he said .
