In a crackdown on encroachments, the district administration on Saturday removed nearly 45 sheds from the vicinity of Hotel Palash in the TT Nagar area of the state capital. The sheds were being used as garages by residents in the area, and shopkeepers had occupied the road, causing traffic jams.
A car wash was also penalised for allowing water to flow into the streets. The anti-encroachment drive, comprising municipal workers and the police, was led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Archana Rawat, who later said that the action was prompted by reports of ambulances getting stuck in the area due to the encroachments.
She said that commuters too have complained of the encroachments causing inconvenience to people making their way to the annual Bhopal Utsav Mela at the nearby Dussehra Maidan.
SDM Rawat also stated that electricity and water supplies to several government quarters in the area would soon be disconnected after they were found to be illegally occupied by squatters.A letter will be sent to the estate department to evict the illegal occupants, she said.
