Prof. Jai Prakash Lal, Chancellor of Central University of Jharkhand and Lifetime Professor, Banaras Hindu University, made his maiden visit to the ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB), Ranchi. He was warmly welcomed by Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director of the institute, along with the scientific and administrative staff.
During the visit, Dr. Rakshit provided an overview of IIAB’s unique position within the ICAR system, highlighting its mandate to address the interphase of plant, animal, fish, and microbial sciences. He also emphasized the institute’s active involvement in SCSP (Scheduled Caste Sub Plan) and TSP (Tribal Sub Plan) programmes, which aim to benefit diverse stakeholders. Dr. Rakshit noted with pride that IIAB has emerged as a top choice for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, second only to ICAR-IARI.
Prof. Lal toured the institute’s state-of-the-art laboratories dedicated to biotechnology and tissue culture research, as well as classrooms equipped with advanced teaching facilities. He expressed his appreciation for the institute’s comprehensive research and teaching infrastructure. A visit to the IIAB farm further impressed Prof. Lal, particularly the maintenance and activities within the Integrated Farming System (IFS) unit. He interacted with the scientists, encouraging young researchers to explore innovative ideas and conduct impactful research at both national and international levels.
Prof. Lal underscored the importance of blending ancient knowledge with modern technologies to drive innovative research that contributes to the development of nation. He emphasized the crucial role of teachers in shaping and nurturing students and motivated all staff members to work with dedication, devotion, and determination to achieve excellence.
Dr. Rakshit expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Lal for his inspiring visit, which served to ignite enthusiasm among young researchers and motivated the entire team at IIAB.
