NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subramaniam said in the Vikasit Madhya Pradesh@2047 vision document kick-start meeting in Bhopal that it will be prepared carefully keeping in mind the future needs and challenges. Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anurag Jain said that the kick-start meeting will be important in preparing a concrete roadmap for the development of Madhya Pradesh.
In the meeting held in connection with the roadmap to be prepared for the development of Madhya Pradesh, it was told that the target has been set to increase the GDP of Madhya Pradesh to Rs 27.2 lakh crore in the next five years and to Rs 250 lakh crore by 2047. Madhya Pradesh will become an ideal state of economic, cultural, and social progress by 2047. Every citizen will get access to employment, health, education, and a high quality of life. Madhya Pradesh will become an Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) and Vikasit (developed) state. At the outset, the welcome address was given by Sanjay Shukla, Principal Secretary, Planning, Economics and Statistics Department and Rishi Garg, Chief Executive Officer of State NITI Aayog proposed the vote of thanks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech on 15 August 2023, had called for a resolve to make India a developed nation by the year 2047. Under this, with the cooperation of NITI Aayog, Madhya Pradesh has taken steps towards preparing the 'Vikasit Madhya Pradesh@2047' vision document.
NITI Aayog's perspective
NITI Aayog CEO Subramaniam said that he has a deep emotional connection with Madhya Pradesh. He stressed on preparing the vision document carefully keeping in mind the future needs and challenges. Subramaniam said that the document should not be merely a collection of current needs but should be divided into five-year plans anticipating future challenges and opportunities.
Efforts made by State government
On the priorities and challenges of the state, Chief Secretary Jain said that the vision document will not be just a document, but a concrete roadmap for the development of Madhya Pradesh will be prepared. Jain said that the officials will have to work wholeheartedly towards implementing the vision at the grassroots level after in-depth study and communication with various stakeholders of the state.
Priorities
Principal Secretary Planning, Economics and Statistics Shukla said that the vision of Vikasit Madhya Pradesh will be based on major sectors like agriculture, MSME, tourism, health, and education. The need to increase investment in food processing besides pharma, electronics, and textiles as focus areas was also discussed in the meeting. The proposal to build a private airport was discussed.
Participation of external agency BCG
An economic study of Madhya Pradesh was presented by external agency BCG (Boston Consulting Group), in which the target is to double the state's GDP from the current Rs 13.6 lakh crore to Rs 27.2 lakh crore in the next 5 years and to reach Rs 250 lakh crore by 2047. According to BCG, efforts will be made to make Madhya Pradesh a leading state in industrial development, tourism, agriculture, and green energy.
Future plans
It was suggested in the meeting that for development in various sectors in Madhya Pradesh, it is necessary to increase communication with various internal and external stakeholders including youth, universities, and government institutions. Also, moving towards the goals of every 5 years, the state will be developed as a major industrial center and tourist destination. A cluster will be made of the cities for integrated development.
