Chandigarh’s educational institutions have once again made a stunning mark on the national stage, with the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, claiming the coveted title of India’s number one ‘State Government Day School’ in the EducationWorld India School Rankings (EWISR) 2024-25. This leap from last year’s second position to the top spot is a matter of immense pride for the school and the city, reinforcing Chandigarh’s reputation as a hub for educational excellence. The achievement is not just a win for the school but a major feather in the city’s cap, showcasing its commitment to quality public education.
Adding to this, several other schools in Chandigarh and Mohali have also secured top ranks in various categories, once again highlighting the region's dominance in the field of education.
Topping the list of state-run schools, the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, commonly known as 16-Model, now stands as the best government day school in the country. Its rise to #1 nationwide is a testament to the efforts put into creating a high-quality learning environment. Meanwhile, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Manimajra, held strong, ranking eighth in India. Both schools are pillars of the city’s state-run education system, emphasizing that public schools in Chandigarh are setting standards for others to follow.
Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26; and Carmel Convent School, Sector-9 have secured the third rank jointly in the ‘girls’ day schools’ category, sharing the honour with Jaipur’s Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls School. Both schools have a longstanding history of excellence, known for shaping young minds into strong, capable individuals who excel in both academics and extra-curriculars.
n the ‘boys’ day school’ category, St John’s High School secured a proud third position nationally, tied with DAV Boys Senior Secondary School, Chennai. Known for its rigorous academic programs and dynamic extracurricular opportunities, St John’s continues to produce top performers, maintaining its place among India’s elite boys’ schools.
Yadavindra Public School, Mohali, further solidifies the region’s educational prominence, ranking within the top 10 day-cum-boarding schools in India. This distinction highlights Mohali’s growing influence as an educational destination alongside Chandigarh, making the region a sought-after spot for quality education.
Conducted by EducationWorld, in collaboration with AZ Research Partners, the EWISR 2024-25 survey is the largest of its kind globally. Over 8,700 respondents, including parents, educators, and school administrators, assessed 4,000 schools nationwide on 14 parameters ranging from academic reputation and faculty competence to co-curricular activities and infrastructure.
