State authorities have seized liquor, drugs, precious metals & cash worth around Rs 32,000 lakh from March 16 to April 22. The Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 16, the day poll schedule for the Lok sabha election was announced by the Election Commission of India.
Notably, the Excise, Income Tax, Police and Narcotics departments, as well as other enforcement agencies have seized a total of Rs 31,898.16 crore worth of liquor, drugs, precious metals, and cash from March 1 to April 22. This includes Rs 3,123.56 crore in cash, Rs 4,279.08 crore worth of liquor, Rs 21,177.55 crore worth of drugs, Rs 2,161.59 crore worth of precious metals, and Rs 1,156.38 crore of other seized items.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said here on Tuesday that a total of Rs 239.20 lakh worth of liquor, drugs, and cash were seized by Excise, Income Tax, Police, Narcotics departments, and other enforcement agencies.
On April 22, significant seizures were conducted in various constituencies across Uttar Pradesh. In the Hamirpur assembly constituency of Hamirpur district, Rs 23.09 lakh in cash were seized. In the Jhansi Nagar assembly constituency, a sum of Rs 31.85 lakh was seized. In the Arya Nagar assembly constituency of Kanpur Nagar, a sum of Rs 71 lakh was seized.
Additionally, in the Chandpur assembly constituency of Bijnor district, authorities confiscated an estimated Rs 22.32 lakh worth of drugs (279,000 grams). In the Chandpur Assembly constituency of Bijnor district, an estimated Rs 22.32 lakh worth of drugs (279,000 grams) were seized.
