Teachers working for years in Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) have expressed happiness over the directive of Jharkhand High Court to fill all the vacant posts of Professor, Associate and Assistant Professor in all the universities of the state in the next four months. The court gave this verdict in a case filed by the contract teachers of Sidhu Kanhu University, the High Court has given this direction to the state government, JPSC and the officials of all the universities recently.
It is worth mentioning that like all the universities of the state, there is a huge shortage of permanent teachers in the university departments of BBMKU as well as in the 13 constituent colleges under the university. At present, only around 100 permanent teachers are working in all the PG departments and colleges combined, whereas three times more posts of various levels have been created here. There has been no recruitment since the appointment of permanent teachers in the year 2008 and unfortunately the teachers appointed then on the post of Assistant Professor have not received any promotion till 2024.
Vice-President of
BBMKUTA Dr .Sarmistha Acharyya said BBMK University has had around 65 teachers working as Assistant Professors since 2008. Till date Associate Professor and Professorship happens to be due for the 2008 batch of professors.Unfortunately since 2008, the first stage promotion has not been received till date. This is one of the reasons that teachers appointed in the 2008 batch are not eligible to apply for administrative posts in the university. Besides, Along with this, financial loss is also there as they are not getting due wages owing lack of promotion . The most unfortunate part is that some have retired from the post assistant professor on which they were appointed.. The officials of BBMKUTA had met then chief minister Champai Soren 4 months ago and had handed over a memorandum demanding the promotion. Besides, she said Around 20-22 teachers of 1996 batch are currently working as associate professors in BBMKU.
The number of posts of different HODs and Deans in the university is 30 to 35. The total number of employees is more than 100. But the sanctioned number of posts in the university is 3 times more than this. The teachers are very happy with the High Court order. It is expected that all those appointed in the 2008 batch would get due promotion before the recruitment of assistant professors is carried out as High Court directive, she added.
