ASI posted in traffic commits suicide by shooting himself

Depressed over illness of his wife, an Assistant Sub Inspector of the traffic police committed suicide by shooting himself at Nehru Nagar Police Line in Kamla Nagar on Wednesday morning.

He shot himself with his licensed 315 bore rifle. Initial police investigation has revealed that he was depressed due to his wife's illness, his wife is suffering from cancer.

Yogendra woke up early on Wednesday morning. He did his prayers as usual, after which he shot himself standing at the gate of his flat. He was posted in Zone No. 4 of Bhopal. The bullet pierced his chin and passed through head. Police officers reached the spot as soon as they got information about the incident.

Investigation has revealed that he was in depression for 2 years due to his wife suffering from cancer. On the request of the family, the police have kept the body in the mortuary. The post-mortem will be done on Thursday after the relatives arrive from UP.

ASI Yogendra was on sick leave for the past one and a half months. He was also undergoing treatment for depression. He was on duty in the Kolar beat.

Brother Devendra said that we belong to Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh. Brother used to wake up at four in the morning. At around nine in the morning, he asked his elder son Amit to clean the rifle.

He had said that he would join duty on Thursday. After this, the sound of firing was heard. Devendra told that his elder son Amit is a musician, the second Sumit used to do a private job. The third son Mohit works as a private guard in the convoy of MLA Rameshwar Sharma.

No suicide note has been found from the deceased. The police has got the incident spot inspected by the FSL team. Because Yogendra had asked his son to service the rifle, so the police is also investigating whether the firing happened accidentally during servicing. However, the FSL team believes that after seeing the crime scene, all the evidence is pointing towards suicide.

The deceased's son Amit said that his father had spent a long career of 36 years in the police department. He was to retire after two years. His father never told us about stress on duty or any kind of harassment. Meanwhile, DCP Priyanka Shukla said that investigation has been started. In the initial investigation, the case seems to be a suicide.
