Days after MANIT student, Aditya Sohane, committed suicide inside his hostel room, his father BN Sohane has cast serious aspersions over goings on at the engineering college In a written complaint to the police, BN Sohane—an accounts officer with the PWD—has said that there was no reason for his son to commit suicide as he was good at studies, and the family had no financial difficulties.
Sohane further wrote that his deceased son had mentioned the open supply of drugs on the campus to him and added that MANIT authorities had recently caught students using illicit substances recently.
He claimed that the errant students were imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each while alleging that the possibility his son's death due to drug suppliers and users on campus cannot be ruled out.The bereaved father, in the complaint, further said that the deceased had spoken to his family on video call a day prior to the discovery of his body from hostel no. 5 at the reputed institution.
The police have confiscated the mobile phone and laptop belonging to the deceased and investigations are underway to solve the mystery surrounding his death.Deceased's friends have said that they have no clue of why he would take such an extreme step. No suicide note was found.
