Chhattisgarh Police on Monday arrested a 52-year-old gangster from Raipur and brought him here in connection with a murder of an extortionist over monetary issues.
Listed criminal Tapan Sarkar, who was absconding after killing Shubham Rajput, has been taken into custody, Durg Senior Superintendent of Police Ram Gopal Garg said.
Sewak Ram Nishad, involved in killing Rajput, had already been nabbed soon after the killing last year.
Sarkar was arrested from a farm house in Champaran village in Raipur district following a tip.
After arrest, Sarkar told the police that Nishad slit Rajput’s throat on March 8, 2023 following the former’s instruction to kill him.
The police said Sarkar wanted to replace Rajput from extortion work and assigned Nishad to kill him and to give his position to Nishad. Sarkar was in jail for 17 years and he got bail in 2022 from the Supreme Court over another murder case.
